GARAGE AND WORKSHOP SPECIFICATIONS
Our standard height buildings are 6'6'' high and are constructed using a high strength cement with steel reinforcing the panels are then vibrated to remove trapped air and strengthen the concrete mix , they are then decorated with a Derbyshire multi-spar . we also supply buildings with 7' high panels . We use a Hormann up and over door with steel frame 7' wide as standard but other sizes and styles are available . For the roof on the Apex garage we use a B5 swisspearl cement fibre roofing sheet with a galvanised steel roll top ridge , On Pent roof buildings we use a CR32 profile steel sheet with a polyester coating . There are steel supports (roof trusses ) every 4 ' on pent roofed buildings and every 6' on the apex roof.
BASEWORK ADVICE
The concrete base is a very important part of the construction of a new garage/ workshop.
It needs to be flat and level , to ensure correct fitting of your building so things like the up and over door open correctly.
We recommend that the building is 3-4” overall longer and wider than the desired building size ( if room allows ) .
Ideally the base should finish slightly higher than the surrounding ground to keep excess water away .
Excavate approx 5-6” of earth , shutter out the external perimeter using a sturdy timber ensuring it’s square , measure the diagonal to all corners and they should be the same ( as per diagram) .
Lay a compacted sub base such as a MOT type 1 hardcore aggregate.
Then lay 4” concrete to a depth of 4-5” , using a tampered finish to the concrete , laying a beam across the shutter boards to leave a slight rippled pattern moving up and down the shuttering, then use a trowel around the external edge of the concrete to leave a smooth edge .
